About Me
I have been studying martial and combat arts since the age of 9; moving from boxing through jujitsu, wing chun kung fu and, for the last 21 years, exclusively tai chi chuan.
My teaching style is based very much on traditional Chinese methods and I firmly believe that tai chi chuan must be approached from the perspective of a martial art.
This does not in anyway detract from the health benefits of the art form but allows the student to develop a much greater understanding of the purpose of each movement; which in turn promotes both harmony and external and internal balance.
My students always begin with the Short Form which conditions your body for the beginnings of the martial art. From there, we move onto the Long Form with its more martial content. Progressing through the combatative Force Feats and taking in the more aerobic combined competition forms of the 42 and 48 (where we find elements of the Wu, Sun, Chen and Yang styles) there will be a chance to learn a number of tai chi weapons forms such as broad sword, fan and long sword.
Whilst I stress the importance of tai chi chuan as a martial art, you will never be called upon to fight nor act aggressively within my classes.
